Boat Tours from Marau & Barra Grande
Bay of Camamu, Tremembe, Boipeba and more
The Bay of Camamu (Baia de Camamu) is one of Bahia’s natural treasures. The third largest bay in Brazil, it is a vast, interconnected system of mangroves, rivers, islands and fishing villages, and only the locals who were raised in these waters truly know how to navigate this complex and beautiful maze that mother nature provided. These locals are the boat captains who we contract for our boat tours of the Bay of Camamu. The boats a more modern, but their knowledge and skills are the same as the generations of fishermen that came before.
BOAT TOURS AND TRANSFERS
Speedboat Charter - Bay of Camamu
Marau Transport & Tour offers two types of charter boat tours of the Bay of Camamu, both of which can be customized to suit your interests. You can choose from three different docks to depart from, depending on where you're staying: Porto do Jobel in Saquaira, the pier of Campinho, or Barra Grande. We can also arrange your transportation to and from your hotel.
* If you would like to save money on this tour, we can try to join 2 groups with matching available dates.

Quick Tip! Cajaiba wood boat builders
If you are interested in local culture, you might enjoy a visit to Cajaiba, the village that builds most of Brazil’s “schooners” and other hand-made boats. These impressive wooden ships are constructed almost entirely by hand using traditional “old world” boat building methods, and makes an interesting visit for anyone who enjoys boating or boat building. Most are sold for use in tourist destinations in Brazil, however, many are destined for foreign countries, since these boats can be built for a fraction of the cost here in Bahia.
Charter Boat Tours of Boipeba and Morere Islands
This is an all day trip, and an unforgettable way to visit two of southern Bahia’s most beautiful stretches of coastline. Getting there involves boating along a stretch of open ocean, so it may not be suitable for everyone.
Morere is an island just south of Boipeba known for its crystalline waters and extensive reefs. Accessible only by boat, at low tide this entire area becomes an interconnected system of pools and channels, creating the perfect playground for snorkelers or those who just want to float around with a drink in hand!

The next stop (or first stop, depending on the tide), is the Island of Boipeba and its pristine, near deserted beaches. The Vila, or center of Boipeba, is very picturesque, set between the sea and a wide river with its rustic, Bahian style architecture. There are some great restaurants along the water’s edge, and your boat captain can help you decide which one you would enjoy most.
After lunch, you can decide where to spend some free time. Walk along one of the deserted beaches or stroll through the Village of Boipeba... you really can't go wrong here!
Average time for this trip is around 7 hours.
How it Works
Marau Transport & Tour will help you choose the right boat and captain based on your interests and the number of people in your party. We work with a wide range of boats and their owners, from simple speedboats to larger boats with more amenities, such as onboard toilet and sink, extra comfort and full canopies for those who need complete shade.
We will coordinate all the details of your boat tour, such as:
- Scheduling and coordinating with the boat captain
- Transportation to and from the pier closest to your hotel or pousada
- The best route depending on your interests
- Lunch options
- An English-speaking guide if needed (none of the boat captains speak English!)
- Any other special needs or requirements
Schooner Tour of the Bay of Camamu
This is a group tour, departing from Barra Grande only.
These large, wooden “schooner” tours are a staple for destinations along the Brazilian coast, allowing you to see the sights while having a good time. There’s music and drink on board, with stops at all the main attractions in the northern part of the Bay of Camamu, such as: Island of Pedra Furada, Island of Goio, Campinho, and Island of Sapinho for lunch (optional). Great for the whole family, couples and even singles! (wink)
Boat transfer Barra Grande or Marau to Boipeba*
Looking for how to get to Boipeba from Barra Grande or Marau? A speedboat charter is the fastest, most scenic way of getting to Boipeba from the Peninsula de Marau. Although not the cheapest way to get to Boipeba, you are combining your transportation with a scenic tour of one of Bahia's most beautiful stretches of coastline. If you would like, we could try to combine your party with others traveling the same day, reducing your costs proportionally.
There are three departure points you can choose from depending on where you are staying: Porto do Jobel in Saquaira, the pier of Campinho, or Barra Grande.
Travel time: approximately 1 1/2 hours depending on ocean conditions.
* Important: This boat trip crosses open ocean, and although perfectly safe, may not be suitable for everyone.
